Ford Fiesta at Ford Lincoln of Huntington

The Ford Fiesta was introduced in 1976. Since that time, Ford has sold more than 16 million Fiestas, making it one of the company's best-selling vehicles. The 2010 sixth generation Fiesta was the first Fiesta model to become available in the United States since the Fiesta Mark I was discontinued.

Ford Fiesta Generations

The first generation ran from 1976-1983. It was originally available in Base, Popular, L, GL trim levels, and later also Ghia and S trim as well as a van. The U.S. Mark I Fiesta was designed with slightly different specifications than the European release. All American models were Base, Decor, Sport, and Ghia, with the latter having the most customizable trim level. During the three years that this model ran in the U.S., very little variation was made on the level of trim. All the U.S. models featured a 1,596 cc (97.4 cu in) engine, which was slightly more powerful than the European models. Other features included side-marker lamps, energy-absorbing bumpers, improved crash dynamics, and optional air conditioning. In the United States, the Ford Escort replaced the Fiesta in 1981.

The Early Sixth Generation

When the Ford Fiesta returned to the U.S. market in 2010, it featured two body styles: a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback. The economical car had a number of popular features including two engine options: 6-liter petrol four-cylinder and a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel. The turbo was only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox, whereas the four-cylinder had an optional 6-speed automatic transmission, which had a dual-clutch DSG gearbox. The Fiesta remained virtually unchanged until 2013 when the styling was upgraded.

The Current Sixth Generation

The sixth generation Ford Fiesta was rolled out in 2008 and is the current generation. However, it wasn't reintroduced to the U.S. market until 2010. Like many contemporary Fords, this model of the subcompact car is uniquely handsome.

The current model is a subcompact car which is available in S, SE, and Titanium trim levels. There is a further option which is only available as a hatchback. This is the high-performance ST model. All of the versions except the latter have a standard 120 horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The standard transmission is a 5-speed manual, though an optional 6-speed automatic is also available. If you are considering the SE, you also have the option of a 123 horsepower 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine with turbocharge. This option is only fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The ST has a 197 horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Standard features for the S level include power locks and mirrors, a steering wheel that tilts and telescopes, air conditioning, a radio and a CD player as wells as iPod/USB connectivity, and Bluetooth connectivity. The SE level has a few additional features, including keyless entry, cruise control, power windows, front center armrest, a road trip computer, and a steering wheel wrapped in leather. The Titanium trim adds alloy wheels, keyless entry and ignition, fog lamps, heated front seats, leather upholstery, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, auto climate control, SYNC services and MyFord touch interface, and an audio system with HD and satellite radio. The high-performance ST model has several perks, such as exclusive bodywork, 17-inch wheels, a suspension that is sport-tuned, high-performance tires, more responsive steering, as well as upgraded brakes and sports seats.

The Fiesta's interior features a space-saving construction with a soft-touch dashboard. The controls are well-placed and user-friendly. If you're looking for backseat and cargo space, you'll need the sedan rather than the hatchback. With the current Fiesta, you're looking at a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine. The turbo-charged 3-cylinder also offers good fuel economy.
