All models have good safety ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests.

Ford Fusion Trim Levels

Currently, the Ford Fusion is available with five trim levels: S, SE, Titanium, Platinum, and Sport. The standard (S) level comes with voice-activated Sync audio and cell phone interface, air-conditioning, a four-speaker stereo system combined with a CD player and iPod USB. At SE level, you get the addition of a power driver's seat, alloy wheels, and a rear-seat center armrest. When you choose the Titanium level, you can also take advantage of keyless entry and ignition, leather upholstery, heated front seats, parking sensors, auto climate control, an upgraded sound system and the Sync 3 interface with an 8-inch touchscreen. Just when you thought it couldn't get better, there is the Platinum with luxurious leather, adjustable power steering, and many other optional features such as automated parking and adaptive cruise control. The Sport level has a turbo V6 engine and adjustable suspension dampers.

Ford Fusion Generations

First Generation: The Ford Fusion was introduced in 2006 to replace the Taurus (which was to make a glorious return late, as a full-size sedan). At its debut, it was available in S, SE, and SEL trims.  The base engine was designed 2.3 L Duratec 23 with 160 horsepower and was available with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. SE and SEL models had a 3.0 L Duratec 30 V6 engines with 221hp. In 2007, the V6 models were available with all-wheel-drive.  Ford added ABS as a standard feature for 2008 models.

Second Generation: The second (and still current) generation launched in 2012. It was designed with a longer wheelbase. In spite of the increased exterior dimensions, the interior is slightly smaller. The 2013 Fusion is available in three trim levels: S, SE, and Titanium. The second generation has five different powertrains, including two hybrid models. All engines are currently four-cylinders. The Sport model has a 2.7L turbocharged V6 engine. Other new introductions to the second generation include driver assistance features such as forward collision warning, lane keeping system, active park assist, backup camera, blind spot information system, and adaptive cruise control. Safety is further improved thanks to the second-row inflatable safety belts, auto start-stop, and all-wheel drive. The Ford Fusion has remained a consistent competitor with the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry.
